I listed an item of jewelry on Craigslist for the first time. I sent a potential buyer my PayPal address and was told by an e-mail from PayPal that I had to e-mail the PayPal address the tracking number of the shipped item and then PayPal would deposit the funds into my PayPal account.
Well, I did that and then waited for the funds to be deposited. When no funds were deposited, I called PayPal to see what was happening. Meanwhile I had already sent the package to Nigeria. The PayPal e-mail I got telling me to e-mail the tracking number was phoney. I was too late to retrieve my package from the Post Office. I sent the jewelry to the buyer and was not paid for it.
A few days later this person send me another e-mail telling me he had made a mistake and that I had to deposit funds so that my funds would be released. A few days later than that, he e-mailed me to send him money so he would send back the package.
By this time, I had already accepted the loss and decided I would not send him anything more.
Now I am getting more e-mails from Nigeria and elsewhere for lots of scams where I have to send money to someone i don't know.
The addrresses the thief uses are as follows:
Ogwu Michael Chuks, (the buyers fake e-mail)
[email protected] (the buyer's fake PayPal e-mail)
I am going to report all the rest of thse Nigerians as well as soon as they show up in my e-mails.
The phoney PayPal e-mail was very convincing as it was my first sale on Craigslist using PayPal. It looked very authentic.
