Darkstar LLC
Predatory company policies & unauthorized credit card charges. Bloomington, Illinois

Darkstar charged my card without my permission. They refuse to cancel my account.

My issue: Darkstar had a number of different technical issues recently. The customer service is lacking in the extreme. After them attempting to put the onus of the failures on me for their technical issues I sought to cancel my account.

Having dealt with their abhorrent policies in the past I made sure to give them plenty of notice to cancel my account. Thirty days in fact.

When the billing cycle came around the next time I was charged again. I sent out a ticket and they insist I need to give them the last 4 digits of my card again before they will stop charging me and refuse to give me my money back.

Darkstar's abusive policies.

Keep in mind you only see these in action when trying to cancel your account so any claims that "we've been in business for x amount of time" hold no bearing upon these practices.

Canceling an account is a narrow process that can only be done a certain way. You can only go through a support staff ticket process. This makes a customer less likely to cancel correctly and increases their ability to continue to charge you. They do not accept cancellations over the phone or via email. This is an excuse to pocket more of your money.

Canceling an account needs to have advance notice of 24 hours. Unfortunately the support staff needs to see it and confirm it. So in reality this could be a great deal longer than 24 hours if the support staff is taking awhile to answer tickets. This is an excuse to pocket more of your money.

When you do submit a ticket with enough time to not be charged they make sure to add an additional hurtle into the process by demanding the last 4 digits of your credit card number again. Keep in mind you can pull the last 4 digits of your credit card up when logged into your account. Any claim that this is for security purposes is bogus. This is an excuse to pocket more of your money.

If you attempt to dispute the charges with your credit card company they claim they will charge you an additional $175. This is an excuse to pocket more of your money.

In conclusion: All in all I would avoid this company in the extreme. It doesn't seem that their regular business practices make them enough money so they have to squabble with customers over their last month when they have had enough. Darkstar also appears to put in a number of abusive tactics to keep that last little bit of cash from one billing cycle beyond what you wish to be the final one.

Seems petty but I guess anything to pocket more of our money, right?
