I ordered 2 books from a website called discountbooksale.com and also known as hotbooksale.com that came to a total of about $12 on January the 20th. As I was balancing my checking accout at the end of the month as is usual for me, I noticed a couple of suspicious charges on my account from smartsavingscenter.com the first made just a day or so after I ordered the books for $1 and 7 days later for $29.95.
As I use my account mainly for bills and the occasional online order, I hadn't budgeted an additional $31 being drafted from my account and now my account has a negative balance. Further research into the company, I saw that many people were scammed by this same company always hiding in the very fine print of some online ordering services and that their membership fees also vary by the customer. After reading the fine print of the order I placed, I see an agreement to a 7 day trial to the services but never any charges being made to the account used in placing the order.
I have already contacted my bank, both websites (discountbooksale.com and smartsavingscenter.com), the better business bureau and local media to shed some light on this company and would like to get a little more light on their deception. I have yet to receive a reply from either site, although discountbooksale.com has yet to even ship my order placed on January 20th and I have requested a cancellation of that order.
By the way, the information on how to contact that site is only via a "ticket" through the website, no email address, phone number, fax number, physical address, etc. As for Smartsavingscenter.com, they have a P.O. Box address on their site as well as a phone number which proves to be a waste of time as I have been on the line for over an hour and just a bunch of recordings stating "you are caller number 29" as it first started out and now I am number 10, which I seriously doubt as I have working in teleservices for quite a number of years and very familiar with prerecorded voices that say the same thing all the time regardless of how many are ahead of you especially at how consistant the number moves down and this is not how calling que flows, which is rather erratic.
