Alienware Notebook Sucks and Alienware Customer Support Josh Laughs at Customer Miami

I purchased an Alienware Notebook for my daughter as a college gift. It was the type she picked out (against my advice) and she uses it for both work and to play games like WOW. From the outset it was slow for the 3K price but she seemed to like it.

First, the DVD drive won't recognize it as LightScribe and Alienware never got that fixed. Second, the sound began to fade in and out with a glitchy volume control. They suggested reloading drivers. Yeah, that worked. I should have sent it back then and there but my kid liked it.

Well, lo and behold, 14 months to the day and the video card is out. Now the system is useless for anything. I called Alienware support to find out if I can send it to them for repair and they suggested (seriously) that I open it and fix it by wiggling the wires. I told them that I didn't want to do that and needed some support. You know, from the actual support folks. Well, he said since the system is out of warranty and I didn't get an extended warranty I am out of luck. He then suggested that I go on the internet and find a new video card on my own and put it in since I could do nothing else to the system to make it worse. REALLY? Really? He then told me that the video card from NVIDIA is known to be a problem and I should call them and complain. He said that they have had nothing but problems from NVIDIA cards and that I should be grateful that it lasted this long. REALLY? Of couse, I emailed NVIDIA and have heard nothing as of yet.

Of course, I got a bit angry and said I have 3 DELL notebooks (one is over 6 years old) and they all still work great. He said he didn't care and that is what I get for ordering an Alienware. I then asked if his supervisor was in and he laughed and said no one was there except him so good luck and then he hung up.

I called back and this guy (JOSH) actually laughed at me and said I was a chump for getting an Alienware system and since they had my money I was out of luck. He then hung up again.

Well, I emailed alienware support and got essentially the same answer. We got your money. No warranty. Good luck.

This is certainly not what I expected after spending so much money on a system especially since DELL now owns the company.

I am a professor and active duty military and I plan to spend my time in class each semester spreading the word on how poor Alienware systems are and how they treat their customers. I have emailed NVIDIA, nothing, ALIENWARE, standard, good luck to you we got your money and DELL (nothing either).

I don't expect to get my money back and know I will end up putting more money into this dog system but I certainly think that someone should do something to show them that customers can't be ripped off without consequences.
