This is what I call my Fifth Third Fiasco. To start out with, this was my mistake. A very costly mistake. I was making a payment for my mortgage online. Unfortunately, I sent the payment to an account in my list of accounts above the mortgage payment. I didn’t think I would have a problem getting this money back because it was sent to a closed account with my bank. It was an overdraft protection account which had gone to collections and subsequently paid after a complaint was filed. I settled this account in full over a year and a half ago. So no problem getting the money returned to my checking account, right, well wrong. Fifth Third is saying it is a write - off and keeps giving me the runaround on when the money will be returned, if it is returned. This payment was sent on November 3. My mortgage company contacted me on November 19 wanting to know when they could expect payment. I told them the payment was sent on November 3 and then I looked closer to the recipient of the payment and made immediate contact with them. I have been on the phone with Fifth Thrid almost every day now since November 19 (it is now December 22 and no closer to being resolved then the day the dispute was opened) trying to get this misdirected payment returned to my account. When I first called about this and filed the dispute I was told it would take 7-10 days to settle this. I waited 10 days and called back and they told me 3-5 days more. I waited 5 days called back and was told 3 more days. Then at one point they told me it would be at their discretion as to whether I would get the money returned. I I called back last week three days in a row, the first day they said 3 more days and someone would be calling me with the status, of course, no call. The next day, I was told 3 more days. On Friday I call and they say someone named Tiffany is working on it. I talk with her and she tells me she just got the issue on Thursday at 3:30pm. Which is coincidently the time I called on Thursday. I called again today (Tuesday, December 22) and was told Tiffany is still working on it that I should hear something within 24 hours. You and I both know I am not going to received that phone call. This month I was within 3 days of having my water turned off and within 4 days of having my electricity turned off. It is going to be the same situation again next month. I already live from paycheck to paycheck.
