I opened my account with HSBC in October.in December, I took out a personal loan and paid off all of my credit cards. A check was sent to HSBC on the 5th of december. When I would call about the check that had been sent they would keep telling me that they had not received it. I went back to the bank where I took out the loan and they told me that the check had already been cashed. Turns out they had applied my payment to someone else's account. They told me to fax a copy of the check and they could take care of it. I was told that they had received it and it was being took care of. I was then told that the money would be applied to my account on the 23rd of Demcember. When I called back on the 23 because it hadn't been applied I was told it would take 5-7 more days.
Then when I called back at that point they told me that they couldn't see why anyone would have told me that because the faxed check had never been received. So I refaxed it. I was then told it would take 5-7 more days. Then the girl told 7-10 days. When I called back because it hadn't been applied, I was told that it could take another 30-90 days for the payment to be applied. During this frustration another bill come up for them. I didn't want my credit to be hurt. I'm 19 and still building my credit. So I authorized a 15.00 payment to be drafted from my savings account. When I clicked the PAY NOW box, an error popped up saying that the system was currently unavailable and that my payment would not be processed. Lord and behold a week later they tried to take the money anyhow. There was no money in the account, so when they attempted that I was charged a 30 overdraft fee. Two days later they tried again and I was charged another 30 overdraft fee. So now I was 60 dollars in the negative. I went to the bank and they refunded the fees when I explained what happened and put a stop payment on the account. During this the check I had mailed in had been received, but I couldn't use the money because my accounts were frozen for 13 days because of the returned item. I have spoken with many people at HSBC and I can not get anyone to help me.
They keep telling me that because I authorized the payment when the system became available they processed the payment. I cannot get them to understand that the error said that the payment would not be processed. Then I get called a liar, because they say they do not have an error message that says that. I didn't think to print the error message because my other accounts do the same thing to me all the time and they really don't take the money. Once when I tried to cancel the account I was transferred to someone who deceided that he should tell me his entire life story when it came to credit cards. Then another time when I tried to cancel, the man refused to send me to another representative. He had called me a liar and refused to help me. So then I asked him to cancel the card, but he refused without full payment of the account that very second. Now I have to wait 13 days to access my account anytime I want to use it after sending in a payment. What I can not figure out is why I am being penalized when they are the ones who took my money without my knowledge or authorization.
