Intuit Makers - Quicken Home Finance Software
They are selling work arounds for problems in their software

Quicken has always been weak at printing. Over the last month my Quicken 2007 version stopped printing to my HP 8700 printer despite months of prior operation. I assure you that nothing has changed and every other program I own continues to function perfectly with this printer and its driver. So I called their tech (Intuit) support and had to wait for a callback from them. When it came, they were very cagey and went to great lengths to tell me they were going to determine if the problem was with Quicken or the printer driver. The reason being, if it was NOT quicken, then I would have to pay 24.99 for the service. What else could I do, what good is a checkbook program that won't print. I agreed that if the fault was not with Quicken I would pay. I must tell you that it was quickly evident that the person on the line new EXACTLY what was wrong and had a fix all set to go. But they would not offer it unless they had your assurance of paying for it. They are simply selling a bug fix for as much as they can make at it. What they do is to create another printer and give it a different newer printer driver and point it at your old printer. This newer different driver is known to work and did indeed work on my system. I should have to pay for that? Their reasoning is that since every other program works with your printer but Quicken does not, it must be the printer driver's fault. That reasoning is well beyond me! They had me print to the PDF driver, then load the resulting PDF file up and then print to the printer. This worked and again they claimed that this was evidence that Quicken was not at fault. I told them the fact that Adobe Acrobat could print what Quicken could not, in my estimation, severely weakened their case. They see it differently; I cannot understand what they could be thinking. The people on the phone are quite obviously non-technical and operating from a script. This is what you get when they out-source the help lines. It is really sad to see how bad customer service has regressed among these software companies.

The fix was to substitute a HP 990c driver for my HP 8700 driver. Obviously Quicken has some serious quirks when it comes to printing that this other driver can absorb. Of course the 990c driver does not support B sized printing which is why I bought the 8700 printer. What a merry-go-round.

I refused to pay and now I can no longer get service from Intuit. I have never stiffed anyone in my life out of money due them. And now I am a deadbeat, non-payer. I cannot believe they want us to pay for a software fix to a product WE ALREADY PAID FOR, REPEATEDLY! Please beware of this company and their horrible tactics and miserable customer service.
