I've never had a web site built before, But I needed one because I got into Affiliate marketing for a certain product that I wanted to promote. So I knew some one that recommended Elance.com to find web designers, so I was like cool I'll check them out.
I put up my job needs and then people suppose to bid for it. I got like 5 bids. From 275 to 400 dollars. Well I'm a college student not making much on a very tight budget but trying to start my own marketing web site. I decided to hire the company (web media world) for there bid of $275 with unlimited alterations to the design and it suppose to be done in 2 weeks cause that when they said it was going to take.
I needed a website to be built using PHP coding, because I pay a Yearly fee for my Linux web hosting account and I want all my web sites to work on one host.
We made a deal I pay 50% up front and 50% at the end. I paid them promptly to get started.
In the beginning Every thing was going OK they were contacting me a couple times a day sending me links to mock ups and asking me what I liked and didn't like so I asked them to change different things around and they were very willing to make me happy at first. But then when I asked them to change one thing they take away other stuff it was becoming a mess. Eventually after lots of head ache they gave me, They made the web site look acceptable. So I gave them the rest of the money thinking every thing was going ok.
Well come to find out they built the website using asp.net some Microsoft code that only works on Windows host and I'm not familiar with that code so if I wanted to edit something my self I would not know how to do it. Its clearly there on the job description what type of code it needs to be.
So that's when the head ache and stress they caused me start happening. Then they say I'm sorry your host does not accept this type of web site so get a windows host. Well they sure never offered me a windows host, but even if they did I would have to pay more on the following years and I just want to deal with one host which I already have.
Then I ask them to change it to the right coding but they say that it cant be done. Well it can, they just have to rewrite it, and they did agree to unlimited changes so that would be breaking there agreement. Why Should I have to buy another host that is ridiculous.
I tried calling them many times to speak with them over the phone to see what we can work out, but they ignore the phone calls. Its very hard to get hold of them. I even filed a report with the better business bureau about it to try to get my money back and they have had a tough time contacting them.
So now I have a pile of useless web files that I cant even use.
Please help I'm trying to get my money back and they have been very stubborn to budge. I dont know what to do any more.
Come on what kind of business works like this I wish I didnt have to find out. They sure dont care about customer satisfaction or any thing for that matter all they are is money hugry.
