Went online to purchase a copy of a birth certificate. The first page for the specific state tells you a cost and never states there are fees charged besides this for processing. The page with the state fee has the cost upfront and center in bold while the underlying fees for the company are typed in white in the last box on the left at the bottom of the page. No one would understand that there was a fee involved.
On the order page itself they put the fees for their company but again not clear so you could understand that you will be paying extra. They write it in red but jumble it with the state fee and run on about fees then say plus $59.00. When reading thier forms anyone could miss this as it is not clearly stated. When you call the company they say the fees are non refundable. Wow what a rip off. Plus the actual birth certifcate for my state was only $10 from the dept of vital statistics and I was already bein charged $35.50 for the birth certificate before I got to the xtra fees for the company. WHAT AN UTTER RIP OFF!!! Order direct from the department of vital statistics and dont waste your money trying to get copies through these crazy people. I have made a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. I encourge anyone who has been ripped off by a company to make a complaint with the Federal trade commission. You can do this online and it takes just a couple of minutes to fill out the form.
