A few months ago I came across the Poetry.com poetry competiton. Out of a spur of the moment I decided to enter my poem. Two months later I receive an email stating that I had won an Editors Choice Award. I was absolutely ecstatic, I got my mother to pay for the plaque that was offered right away. The website was the whole 'International Society of Poets' thing so I honestly didn't question whether it was real or fake.
A couple of weeks later I got a letter saying that my poem was going to be published in a book titled 'Immortal Verses'. Again I was absolutely thrilled, my parents wanted to buy the book as well as the limited edition leather slipcover that was offered. We sent the money off right away.
A few days ago I received a certificate and a membership card into the Interntional Society of Poets. I have to admit, my first look of the card and I wasn't impressed; it looked very un-professional.
My plaque was due to arrive over a week ago and after I stumbled across this site I'm relly not expecting it to come anymore. I even found on the website that the Immortal Verses series was due to be published in Winter 2006.
I am 17 years old that suffers from depression and I wrote that poem during the worst time of my life. I poured out my feelings and emotions into that piece of writing and I can't believe anybody would exploit that for money.
I just want to warn people who come across this website that it is a complete scam and that they are just heartless people looking for an easy way to earn money.
