Defective merchandise, Overstock will not refund the money ripoff

Overstock.com does not stand by their products they sell. I bought earrings for my mother's birthday, but bought them in advance since they were on sale. She wore them once the day after I gave them to her and the ball came off of its earring post.

I call overstock and they said since it is past the 30 day policy they will only give half of the price back to me in CREDIT only, so they are forcing you to shop there again!

I talked with a manager and he said if he got my call first he would not have even offered me the half the price in credit! I told him basically Overstock doesnt care if you buy a defective item, and they do not stand by what they sell. And that you are just out of luck if you buy a gift in advance. That darn manager told me I should INSPECT the items when I get them in the mail, I probably could have seen there was something wrong with the earrings (there wasn't any clear crack in them or anything).

I cannot believe he told me that. I told him that again, he is basically saying, overstock may sell you crap, so inspect it when you get it because if it is total crap or defective they don't care, especially if it is past the 30 day period.

I feel if an item is defective it should be returned no matter what, as long as a person did not break them, that is was truly defective.

A pair of brand new earrings should not break the first time you wear them, that is defective workmanship.

I guess what overstock basically accomplished by their crappy service and products is to realize. Hey they sell total junk, they don't care about the customer, they just screw you over and will NEVER give you cash back.

I will NEVER shop there again, and I hope no one has this happen to them and get a defective gift and overstock say "oh well" and then be rude by saying a manager wouldn't have given me crap. Then giving me partial store credit only after I told them what a bad customer service issue this is.

I have to say though, I am glad that the two people I talked with were not totally rude as some managers are. I was very polite to them and talked to them calmly, I'm wondering if that is the only reason they gave me partial credit. So, I would recommend not screaming at them first off (I know I wanted to though), these people seem to not care too much about customers even though they say they do.
