Sold my mom a refurbished computer, instead of a new one

My mom (a 82 yr. Old on SSI & SSA) got a ad in the mail from Sweepstakes Clearinghouse selling a computer. She ordered it (for me), did their lay away, and on February 19, I received the computer. My first new one, or so I thought.

The day I got it up and running, the monitor had multi-colored dots on the screen. It was like looking through a "stained glass" window. I got an email for the manufacturer (a Duracom) and a guy answering the emails, told me that his company refurbishes computers for SCH and they in return sell them.

He also said that the ad in the mail told it was a refurbished computer, but the papers that came with the computer said nothing to that fact, if anything, I found the word "new" in a couple of the things with the computer.

IF it was a refurbished computer, then why was it just stated in the ad (if it was indeed stated there) why didn't a paper come with the computer stating that?

"Duracom" said if I called their number and if the monitor was still under warranty (for what ever needed fixing) then they'd do it. One, I don't want to send it back, cost wise and two, why should I have to, because we assumed it was new.

We never got a invoice with it, and not much in the line of any papers really. I've contacted the Better Business Bureau in Dallas to see what can be done about this. They, SCH and Duracom, shouldn't be allowed to do this to anyone - ever again!
