Yesterday, when I opened my "Internet Explorer", an "urgent" message came up from Microsoft that I needed to "update" Internet Explorer from 6 to 7. I am not very familiar with computers, so I did so, and followed all the directions and instructions. I have Windows XP (home edition)
This AM when I turned on the computer, the line at the top where it has "file, edit, view..." was gone!!!
After I had tried many things on my own, I could not get it back, therefore I called Microsoft (1-800-936-5700) for help. They told me, that since I was using a Sony product (Viao laptop) that it was their responsibility, not Microsoft (even tho it was a Microsoft product that caused the problem). Since it wasn't their problem, it would cost $34.99 to speak with a tech. Therefore I called Sony (1-888-476-6972), paid approximatly $20 and he fixed the problem.
Why didn't Microsoft fix it for free, since it was their product that caused the difficulty???
