Charter Communications
Billed before they installed service and told we had service, lengthy hold times, decieved, and high installation charges!

My roomate wanted to get Charter's high speed internet service. They had a special where it would cost 20 dollars a month for the first three months. She called and they were supposed to install internet, and everything seemed fine. Before the internet was installed they sent a bill, a bill for service they were not providing yet!

It gets better. My roomate calls and was sent to the usual 3-5 "customer service" representatives in several different departments, and was put on hold several times. This is their typical customer service. They then tell her that we already have service, while we clearly did not! The bill was finally adjusted and a time was set for the technician to come and install internet service.

Usually they tell you it is about a 50 dollar installation fee. Yeah right, they tend to leave out a few details. Because the bill without service deal set us back a few weeks, we had to pay extra for installation and monthly service! Effective December 28, they raised and itemized installation charges. Meaning the technician came to install it, which was a 99 dollar fee for the house call. Then there was his hourly 34.99 fee, a feel to install the router, a fee for the software, and several other fees. I was surprised when I came home and found out that our installation bill (including first month's service) was well over 200 dollars! Oh, and we no longer got their 19.99/month deal.

I have heard many horror stories about Charter and have dealt with them a couple of times in the past. Isn't this a lovely beginning to their service?

Here is my question. If anyone is familiar with the Metro East area in Illinois, are there any other possible internet service providers to use in the future? This company, as vile as it is, has a virtual monopoly in this area!

Here's a fair and obvious warning. If you can, stay far, far away from Charter.
