I recently was in need of an automated commenter to reach my myspace members. I came across FriendTools almost immediately with some searching. The price seemed right at ~$30.
First I downloaded the trial software, which conveniently had the commentor feature disabled, so I was unable to verify if it actually worked or not.
The rest of the program looked good, so I purchased the program for ~$40. I am not sure why I was overcharged ten dollars, but this is the least of my concern.
I waited a day for the registration key, which is actually just a file that goes with the software. I opened the program and things looked good. The first thing I did was attempt to initialize the friend commentor feature.instantly I recevied error messages from the browser. After multiple events I decided that my version of Internet Explorer may be too new, and that there was some sort of compatibility issue.
Upon trying to unistall Internet explorer 7, I had trouble. The program would not completelt unistall, and after about 3 hours of trying to clean up the mess, I thought it was time to do a complete fresh install of everything.
I backed up all software and important files and reset the computer to factory specs. When I reinstalled the program, it suddenly did not work. After a little investigating I noticed that my machine ID had changed, and I concluded that the registration key file works off this ID.
I thought it was ridiculous that I could not reinstall my OS, etc. Without losing rights to the software that I purchased. I decided to file a service report with the company that asked why the program didn't work and about the change of machine ID. After 2 days of waiting I was instructed to buy another key for $10! The rep did not answer my question and told me to spend more money!
I was furious and sent an email to MateMedia. No response. I called his toll free number multiple times and left a few messages. No response.
After multiple hours I figured out that his software relies on the hard drive volume ID to verify the key. I found software that allowed me to change my ID, and I changed it back to the original number.
The program opened back up in registered mode. With the prior version of explorer installed the program still failed to operate correctly.
I downloaded another trial version of another automated program and noted that the URL the program uses is one word different than the one on friendtools. The problem wasn't the browser; the problem is that FriendTools uses an out of date URL. And they are still selling it!
I feel victimized and I am not sure what to do.
