I purchased a Corsair 1gb SD card from Fry's 2-26-06. I sent the $10 rebate in a few days later.
On 7-21-06 I recieved a check dated 5-02-06 from Corsair for $10, with a Void date of 7-10-06.
I deposited the check on 7-26-06 and was notified by my bank via mail a week or so later the check had been returned because Corsair closed their Account and my account was charged a $7 processing fee.
So is this a new scam? I've noticed in the past year about 40% of the rebate checks I recieve bear dates that are 30 or more days old by the time I recieve them. This is the first were it was recieved after the Void date.
I not only got screwed out of the $10 but incured a $7 bank fee as well.
Maybe I should start using this practice when making purchases at Fry's. I'll back date my check and put a Void date of the day before the purchase and then call my bank to close the account. Seems all legal to me.
BTW... I don't want to hear how Fry's has nothing to do with the rebates. Fry's collects the money at time of purchase and funds the rebates when they come due.
I've haven't stepped a foot into a CompUSA or Best Buy in over 5years because they don't care how their rebaters treat their customer, so it wouldn't be a problem for me to add Fry's to that list.
