America Online
Beware! AOL will try ANYTHING to get your money. Read My Report!

In July of I signed up for AOL's 'free 30 day trial'. When I had it for 28 days, I called their customer service line to cancel. The representative assured me it was cancelled. A few days later, a charge shows up on my bank statement for $23.90. I called AOL a couple of days later, and the representative apologized and said that my account was cancelled and the credit should show up in my bank account in 72 hours.

That credit never came. Less than a month later I was charged AGAIN for $23.90. I called AOL and the CSR I got told me it was never documented that I wanted cancellation, and he tried his best to keep me as a customer. I refused and after about 20 minutes, he then cancelled me, and I got an automatic recording stating I was cancelled. They refused to give me credit for the past 2 months that they charged me.

I then called my bank and told them the charges to my bank account were unauthorized. My bank put a temporary credit of $47.80 on my account and gave AOL thirty days to prove the charges were valid. AOL never responded, so my credit became permanent. I thought my dealings wih AOL were over.

I was wrong. A YEAR LATER (the letter arrived yesterday), I get a notice from NCO Financial Systems (a collection agency) demanding payment of $47.80 on behalf of AOL. I guess AOL needs to make up for all the lost revenue from losing thousands of customers.

I called the collection agency immediately and let them know that I dispute the charges. They are sending some paperwork to me.

If you are looking for Internet service, do NOT use AOL. There are a lot of dialup services that are of lower cost and better quality. If you are on AOL - stop using their service. Let's put America Online out of business!
