I wish I read this report long ago. I have had earthlink for almost 2 years now. My dsl box kept breaking on me, I requested a new dsl box, I was asked if I wanted next day delivery for 39.95, I went for it. I was also told if I shipped the broken box back, there would be no charge. It took the dsl box 3 days to get to me, I also sent the old one back, with their postage free label. On my bill, I was being charged 39.95 for the "overnight" shipping, and 49.95 for the replacement modem. I called numerous times to have this take off my bill.
They told me it would be taken off, but my bill was overdue, to send payment in. I said so how much, they said full amount and then we will credit your account when we take these charges off. I told them send me an adjusted bill and I will pay it then.
While I am waiting for new bill, they terminate my service, and add 149.00 early termination fee to it. Now I am calling numerous times again. Finally, I (think) I have this straightened out. My service is restored. For 1 day, then it goes out. On the phone, with them again. Finally I am so mad, and not getting any where, not to mention, their customer service rep hangs up on me. Finally I ask for a supervisor, because most reps are of forein decent, and not getting any where, btw, supervisors are american. He tells me reason my service is still off, is cuz my phone co has not returned the signal, that he will fix that, and my service will be restored in an hour to a week. That I have to have earthlink, reprovise my account. Transfers me, I am on hold for 20 mins, hang up and call back, I tell the reg I need my account reprovisioned. He said he will call central office n brb with me. Gets on and tells me, your account will be 12.95 a month for the first 6 months, and 29.95 for the next 6 months. I say wait a min, I dont want another year service with you, I want the 2 months that I have left on my contract, and I am done with you. He says ok, we will have you connected on may 5th. So now I am going to be paying for a full month of service, and only useing for 2 weeks in april.
I didnt even know I had a year contract, since I have had earthlink since s3pt to find out that when I changed from dial up to dsl, it changed my contract as that being the start date. I will never do business with this company again. Am still waiting to use the final 2 months that I am required to finish, so I dont get charged the early termination fee. If they would only turn it back on, and oh yes, am still being charged for the 39.95 overnight servic, and now a 15.00 reconnect fee.
