I have recently been a victim on an ebay fraud that I lost USD10,600-. I attempted to purchase a patek philippe white gold watch from a seller on ebay. I wire transferred USD10,600- to the seller's account in New York but received no watch. Finally ebay confirmed that the seller's ebay account had been hijacked or hacked' in by an unauthorized person. Ebay claimed no responsibility and not trying to provide any help.
Since my incident happening in Nov 05, I have found that there have been possibly more than 10 seller accounts that have been hijacked or hacked to pretend to sell expensive watches on ebay. I have located total five victims each of them lost USD7K TO USD15K DUE TO THIS EBAY FRAUD. THEY ALL ARE INTERESTED IN CLASS ACTIONS AGAINST EBAY.
First of all, ebay never warned us of this kind of potential risk. Ie. Seller's account will be hijacked. Even a power seller that had hundreds of positive feedbacks on ebay sale records had been hijacked and someone lost lots of money from buying from it. S
Second, ebay has not provided a safe mechanism in protecting a seller's account from being hacked. So buyers would have got defrauded from hijacking of account id.
Third, this fraud is happening almost every week. Ebay so far has not done anything to avoid it and more victims suffer.
My case have been posted on an article in newsweek magazine. Please advise if class actions againt ebay can be taken and what will be the costs involved.
