I bought a camera online from CompUSA, who offered a $50 rebate, with the coupon online (it's CompUSA's rebate, not the manufacturer). The terms were to send in "receipt" or a copy, UPC and coupon. I complied; and included a copy of CompUSA's email receipt, which included date, order number, item, SKU, etc.
I got back an email from TCA rejecting me because I hadn't provided date, "transaction#, " "store receipt not submitted." It just noted; "SEND PACKING SLIP."
Calling TCA, I was instructed to send the email receipt (again) and the packing slip.
I'm an attorney in CA. I KNOW a packing slip is NOT a receipt. My acceptance of the rebate offer was complete and done when I submitted when I did as they outlined in writing; CompUSA or its agents can't add an unwritten term after the offer was accepted and relied upon. Very bad.
Thank goodness I didn't throw away the packing slip (pays to be paranoid). I'll try that, although I don't have to. We'll see.
Meanwhile, although TCA is obviously wrong, SAVE THAT PACKING SLIP and everything else.
