December 9, I received a bill from Premier Premium Communications for $135. The bill stated, "These charges were for an entertainment fee for access to pay-per-view websites, and in addition to this entertainment fee, there will be a long distance surcharge of $1.99 per minute on your local phone bill."
No one in my household had made such calls, nor had they agreed to visit a pay-per-view website.
However, upon questioning my son, he admitted he had been on websites that he wasn't suppose to have. My son who has a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome, is very bright in some ways, but very immature. He insisted however, that he never visited a pay-per-view website, never agreed to any charges.
I believe my child may have been lured into an evil scam by a pornographic pop-up because about the time of these charges, I had problems with my computer.
When I got on the internet, a small pop-up box would appear. On the left side of it was a pornographic picture. I closed the pop-up, and since my computer acted like it was bogged down, I ran the virus scan program.
It detected 30 unwanted programs, some of which it couldn't even remove! I believe these programs were used as dial-ups, making these calls while we where totally unaware.
So, not only have I been ripped-off, but my child has be victimized, too. I now view the internet as not only unsafe, but DANGEROUS! I don't even like to go online anymore. I'm ready to SMASH my computer!
