I made an emergency visit to Prince William Hospital for treatment. I did not have my insurance card to present at the time, but I did have valid insurance that fully covered this treatment. I was billed after this visit. When I received the first bill, I filled in my insurance information completely in the space provided for billing insurance, and mailed the bill to the address indicated.
I received 3 or 4 additional bills after that, and about 3 more times filled in my insurance information fully and sent the bills to the proper address. At this point I was really getting annoyed at having to repeatedly send them this information, but I did, so this bill could be paid and I could stop receiving these annoying bills. Well I did stop receiving this bills, leading me to believe insurance had finally been billed.
I never received any correspondence noting that for whatever reason my insurance could not or would not be charged. Then, suddenly, I am getting sued for the full charge of this visit, about 2 years later! Now they are saying it is "too late" for them to bill my insurance for this. They are saying they "never received" my insurance information, even though I sent it to them multiple times within 2 months of the visit.
They say I "didn't want my insurance billed" either... Who in their right mind who had insurance would choose to pay out of their own pocket for charges that would completely be covered by their health insurance?! What would be the point of the insurance then? That makes absolutely no sense. It is my belief that disorganization led to them misplacing my information, and now they want to see to it that I pay for their error, now that it is too late to bill insurance.
