After calling several local pharmacies for the best price, I transferred my prescription for Bontril to CVS. After a couple of refills, I went in to pickup my last refill and was told at checkout it was over $160.00. I had been paying around $50.00. This is for 3 months worth.
After some consultation with another pharmacist, the lady comes back and says that the manufacturer raised the price. The medication is now unaffordable to me. The problem is that I checked with a pharmacist friend of mine in California, and the manufacturer did not raise the price of the medication. What apparently happened is that they were charging me for a 30 day supply, not a 90 day supply.
Due to federal regulations with the medication, I cannot transfer it again to another pharmacy because I already transferred it once. My main concern besides the price, it is the unethical position of the pharmacy. Shouldn't they have the decency to admit they made a mistake and explain the truth why the price was over 3 times what they quoted?
Because it is regulated, I can't even transfer it somewhere that I can afford. I am trapped. My view is that if a price is quoted, it should be honored, particularly when my options to purchase elsewhere are non-existent. To lie about the issue and blame the high cost on the manufacturer is akin to thievery.
One would assume that such a sensitive business that deals with very personal health issues would require a professional level of staff, not liars who should be hawking for ring toss suckers at the local carnival. As explained, I have no options available to me, and must go without my medication. I have several health issues directly related to overweight, and have done well and made great progress with the medication to loose weight and alleviate some issues. CVS sucks.
