Please do not purchase health insurance from Golden Rule. They are unprofessional and crooked. I recently purchased their coverage after being laid off of work and must say I learned some tough lessons about health insurance in the United States.
I filled out an application online and they called me within seconds of completion. From there the Rep on the phone advised me that Aetna another company I was looking at would not give as good of coverage and that their teaser rates are very difficult to get approved for. She assured me that I would be better off to go with Golden Rule because I would have a lower premium.
During the health questions I advised them that I did take 1 prescription drug and the gal advised me they could writer out the specific drug and that I would still qualify for the premium she was advising me to go with. I had to pay this premium before they would even put through my application for insurance (pretty normal for most health insurance companies). After about two weeks they approved my application but raised the premium from what was discussed and decided to pull the prescription coverage from my plan because of this 1 drug. So they didn't writer out the one drug they completely took out all prescription drug benefits.
Because of all this I decided to keep shopping for insurance and was able to find a different provider with a lower premium and better coverage including prescription drugs. When I called Golden Rule to cancel they had already deducted the next month's premium so they ensured me a refund check would be sent out to me within 3-4 days. Two weeks went by and I still had not received my check. I called Golden Rule to see what was going on and they told me there was a mistake and that my check would be mailed out on October 6th. We'll see.
To add insult to injury I used my health care coverage one time in September to take my daughter to an urgent care facility after she twisted her knee. Come to find out Golden Rule did not cover a dime of the urgent care visit. All in all I have paid these people $1047 in premiums over the last 3 months and they have not paid one cent of any healthcare cost for me. They didn't even mail me back the $346 they rightfully owe me.
If you are shopping Health Insurance I would advise that you not give Golden Rule a second thought. Please purchase coverage through another provider.
