During the online application process policy with Golden Rule Insurance Company, I had a question about the coverage.
After reading the Statement of Understanding, I assumed that the statement 'no benefits will be paid for a health condition that exists prior to the date insurance takes effect' means that everything not pre-existing would be covered.in a different portion of the policy, it stated that there is no coverage for a person with a pre-existing condition.
These 2 statements are in conflict with each other, so called the 800 number to specificly ask a real person to clarify.
The woman on the phone said I would be covered for everything that was not pre-existing. I asked this 3 times of her, even stating my specific pre-existing condition to her. She told me 3 times 'yes, you will be covered for everything that is not pre-existing'.
I finished the application confident that my family and I would have insurance coverage.
When the paperwork arrived in the mail, I was NOT on the policy and it was issued in my wife's name. It stated that I was not covered. I called immediately to set the record straight since the woman on the telephone had specificly told me I would be covered just a few days earlier.
After talking to a rude employee, I learned that I was not covered, I was lied to on the telephone, and that they had no record of my telephone call.
A refund arrived for my premium within a couple days of my cancellation. It was for the full premium. The bank draft occured a few days later for $20 MORE than the refund.
I've called and emailed a number of times asking for a refund of this $20 fee based on being lied to during the application process. I would have never finished the application or paid them anything if I had not been lied to.
