Hi, im writing this report mainly to warn people about Lyndon Morris the instructor at Educo Gym Parnell Street in Dublin.
Its a complete waste of money.
Ive been to Educo Gym to see what it is all about. So Ill go through what i thought. It is basically a pure protien diet. The way it works - u have to take huge amounts of Tony Quinn supplements, to give you the nutrients your not getting from only eating protien, to give you energy because again you are not eating a balanced diet and to surpress you're appatite. Amino Energise 5 x 3 times a day. Amino-Or 1 x twice a day, Mind Alert Tablets 1 x twice a day and the pure creatine in water.
After taking all these they then do a 15/20 min workout for 12 days in a row. Lyndon told me the less workout you do the better. It was 395euros for that???
What made me initially suspicious was that if the less workout you do the better would you not be better off to get the supplements which cost 95euros seperately and take them without paying the extra 300euros for a less than fit looking instructor giving you a 15min workout?
The 1st problem is that it is a ridiculous diet that the average person would find very hard to follow. When i told him i dont eat alot of the food on the diet he said to just do the best i can, nobody can stick to it for that long!
2nd the amount of supplements is abnormal, simular to somebody who trains their body for a living. The supplements are natural and not necessarily bad for you, but it is not something that fits into most peoples day to day and just seems very, very excessive.
3rd to only eat protien is not healthy and and any doctor would tell you that. To cut out any food group is not healthy! For the best results from the supplements you have to stick to the diet.
4th what happens if you do manage to stick to it, are you going to keep paying 395euros every two weeks to sustain it? Or keep buying and taking 20 supplements a day? It might work initally, then what? I questioned Lyndon on this and he kindly informed me that they also have a yearly membership and the more sessions you buy the better price you get so it would be worth my while to sign up. Their yearly membership added up to abour 3 times the price of a proper gym even with their "great offer".
What was a real turn off was the instructor was such a sales guy. He went on about building mussle and how his gym was CHEAPER THAN A NORMAL GYM???
His explaination was you never go to a real gym, and even if you do go their equipment is bad for you ie treadmills, cross trainers, bikes??? His programme is only 12days and you get "personal training" on their state of the art equipment. Their machines are basically different weight machines which you find in any gym and also if you're in a proper gym you have the added benefit of using personal trainers for advice and much more variety on different workouts and so on.
He went on about how great this works for him as he is 36 and was losing mussle. I cant figure out how he thought that would relate to a relatively fit 21yr. Old? When i suggested i would wait and go to a Educo Gym in Waterford as i was going to be moving there in a few weeks he said he knew the instructor and she was not nearly as good as him!
(its all a franchise and he didnt want his business going somewhere else)
He proudly informed me of how much sales they do of supplements and that he had other shops selling Tony Quinn product so he is very successful.
They have before/after photos everywhere. When i recognised 1 of the photos (a local pub owner) - realising i knew him to see he made comments about how the man in his own words "got his belly back" is because he didnt keep it up after the 12 days! My point exactally, it is impossible to maintain it. To be honest there is not that much different in his before/after photo to use it to promote the programme either.
This came from Lyndon who is deffinatley not in the best shape himself. You would think he would look alot fitter if he is going to promote the fact that he uses the programme. He has pictures of himself dressed as Superman sort of posing which are really embarrasing. I get the impression he thinks he looks alot better than he actually does.
And his wife is the other 'instructor' who should i say was even more out of shape - not sure what qualifications she has in personal training but Lyndon is certainly teaching her his over the top sales techniques!
So to sum it all up, it was a weird experience from start to finish. The couple were very off putting and very unprofessional. They would forget you had a session booked, the gym wouldn't even be open when you get there. Then when they do finally arrive the next appointment is already there and you're personal training becomes a 2 way session which he proceeds to rush you through.
They try to sell it to you 100%. When you go for the consultation he spends at least half an hour promising you results while he dances around what is actually involved and never really informs you. You go out thinking you can have a body like Pamela Anderson or Brad pitin 12days??? In my opinion a complete ripoff!
There is no substitute to having a proper balanced diet, going to a regular gym whos yearly fees would cost simular to their 12day fees. And some old-fashioned hard work. That is the way to achieve results, but to actually achieve them long term.
What i would like to finish off on is that if you are still considering going to an educo gym and think this kind of programme could work for you, pick any other branch. I wouldn't want to tar all the instructors with the same brush. I spoke to the girl in Waterford before i visited Parnell Street and she looked really fit, had a great attitude and if she was working in any other gym i would of been happy to go to her for advice on fitness.
They dont give a good impression of the company and maybe if it had of been a differnt branch im not sure i would of come away from it with such a negative attitude even though i dont think it is an approiate diet and programme for the average person looking to get fit. Make the whole thing look like a scam!
