I recently changed jobs, which

I recently changed jobs, which meant a change in healthcare insurance. Several weeks into the new job I became ill and went to the doctor. I received notice from UnitedHealthcare that they would not pay my claims until they had proof that I had coverage at my previous job (to cover pre-existing condition requirements). I immediately sent them the required proof of coverage. I followed-up with a phone call to verify that they had received my documentation. They confirmed that they received my documentation (on July 20). As recently as September 6th, they were still denying payment on my claims due to pre-existing condition!!! Throughout this period of time, I called four times. Each time I called I was told that the problem would be fixed. It is now September 14th and my claims have not been paid. Collection agencies are now beginning to call. UnitedHealthcare is in direct violation of Georgia Section Three of House Bill 616.in other words, UnitedHealthcare is breaking the law. I would like everyone to know (especially at this time of year when folks are selecting insurance companies) about my experience with UnitedHealthcare. I also hope that everyone who changes jobs and/or health insurance companies is familiar with the laws that apply to them.
