My fiance and I had purchased a membership at A New Look Tanning without any notification they would be closing. They claim it was posted—but I do not believe this to be true. I did not see any visible sign when I was there!
During the past month that I was using the membership they would frequently close buisness with no warning for days at a time.
I decided to call their number and leave a message about the closing and lack of hours open—and got the loud error operator message of: "this number has been disconnected..."
Two days later there was a large sign on their door saying "SPACE AVAILABLE" and it was completly empty inside. I left a note saying that I was sorry if the buisness was not working out and my contact info for a refund of the services left unrendered. I was not rude or demanding. I actually felt back because I know the owner was having problems with her daughter (drugs, ect.) I did not believe they would just SCAM me out of my money! Sadly that is the case.
After searching through MySpace for the owner to contact (she had closed/blocked the tanning salon's MySpace) I found her and re-stated my note about being sorry it had not worked out and I wanted a refund for my fiance remaining minutes. I was nothing but KIND.
I recieved a letter in my inbox that shocked me. The subject line said: Happy Holidays (a bit ironic and hurtful) Allow me to just COPY AND PASTE IT: "First of all, we did not go out of business, we are in the process of negotiations with a building owner to re-open at a different location. Second of all, I do not appreciate being bothered. We have always had a sign posted, that there is NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON! We also had a sign posted that we would be closing and to use up any remaining minutes. It is apparent that you did not read this sign or you would not be bothering me."
I reply simply by stateing that she should honor my minutes at her new location and that if she did not contact me about it I would be forced to take her to small claims court possibly. Her response was she would sue ME if I continued to write her. I have left it at that...
I wanted to let past customers know what she had said about our memberships and that they will not be honored at the new location if one is created and no one will be receiving refunds for services left un-rendered.
