Ripoff con deception dishonest representatives swindle bad insurance coverage

If you or anyone you know is thinking about purchasing insurance with Mega Life and Health Insurance Company, DO NOT DO IT!

I was starting a new job that did not offer health insurance so I started shopping on the internet for what was available. I entered in my information on a general website to get quotes from a bunch of different companies online (don't do that either because you get a million phone calls from a bunch of different companies for months and its not the good ones like Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna etc its the "Too good to be true" ones). One of the first companies that called me was Mega and the representative wanted to set up an appointment for the very next day so I agreed. On the phone he had said no deductable, no copay, no coinsurance so I wanted to see what he had.

Being new to insurance shopping and looking for the most affordable and beneficial coverage, what he offered sounded great. So during our consultation I was told that I could go to as many doctor appointments as I wanted all year as long as the costs (after negotiated prices between them and the doctors) were less than a certain amount. I asked what typical pricing was and together we agreed that a limit of $500 a year would be good for me because appointments usually ran $50-90 each and I am a healthy young woman and rarely go to the doctor.

I made sure to ask him about going to the gynocologist for a yearly visit and if that would be covered with that $500 and he said yes. After reaching that limit, then (aha!) there IS a coinsurance of 30%. (Also, there ARE deductables for major medical and ER visits - HUGE ONES, but they will tell you anything to get an appointment). I confirmed again that as soon as my policy was active, I could go and make my appointments like a yearly physical, eye doctor, etc. I made it clear that I wanted to make multiple appointments because I hadn't had insurance since I quit my last job and wanted to cover everything. He said yes. So I did.

I made my appointment with my gynocologist for a couple months later and when that day came, my doctor's office told me that my insurance company only covers $125 a quarter. I thought they must have been mistaken, because I signed up for $500 a YEAR. So I asked how much the appointment would be after their negotiated fees, and was told a little over $300! Now I, like all women, can understand it being high as it was a gynocological visit but the fact that I had been paying $157 for insurance a month for 3 months already and now would have to pay another $200...? And what about the 30% coinsurance you ask? Thats after your $500 year limit, not first quarter limit. So I had a consultation with the doctor but no tests which ended up being $140. So I paid $15 and had nothing done. One of the main reasons women get health insurance is so that they can go to the gynocologist once a year because it is important. It takes months to get an appointment like that and to come away with nothing done is so upsetting.

You better believe I dropped Mega really quickly. Now I have to get new insurance and wait the 90 day waiting period to go again. But since I already paid Mega up til the 20th of next month (july) I still have coverage. A lot of good that does me because I have used my health insurance for the "quarter" and two days later I now have a severe cold. I have health insurance and can't go to the doctor to get medicine. They expected me to keep paying $157 monthly though I couldn't go to the doctor until next "quarter"?? I feel lied to, betrayed, taken advantage of, and RIPPED OFF! Not to mention that when you sign up for Mega, you have to buy a membership with Alliance. Another HUGE SCAM!

I know I have a long story that I have written here, but if you haven't learned anything from me, listen up...
After I signed all the paper work to get coverage with Mega Insurance, I went online to Google them. Something you should do BEFORE you sign anything (lesson learned). I found they had a sketchy background with the Better Business Bureau and also found a few stories on here, The Rippoff Report. I read those reports and thought, that won't happen to me. I was naive and it sounded so good and affordable.

Like I said, this is the first time I was faced with getting my own insurance. Its alot to sort through by yourself. All those copays and deductable seemed expensive so I didn't go with all those well known insurance companies. For all of you in my position, don't go with Mega, or United American or any of those that look too good to be true, because they ARE! You don't have the coverage that you need. There are too many limits that you wont know about until you are stuck with huge bills. Which is exactly what I read in other entries. They didn't know why their stuff wasn't covered and its because the agents leave stuff out. They are liars. When you knowingly leave something out about a service you are trying to sell, you are a LIAR. Nobody likes liars. So take my advice, PAY ATTENTION TO THE consumer complaints. Because I didn't, I chose to file my own report on here hoping maybe someone will listen to me. If you just signed up, its not too late, CANCEL NOW! You have made a mistake like me, fix it. I wish I had read the stuff online and called him back and said nevermind.
