Within the past few months, my family has been dealing with the emotional stresses associated with the declining health of my father, Dr. D. Owens. He was slowly deteriorating and needing some assistance in walking. My father went into the hospital on February 17th. After discussions with various doctors and advising he would be needing some physical therapy, my mother decided that a walker (and possibly a lift chair) was in order.
On February 19th, my mother, Mrs. Owens, along with my brother and myself went to Mobility Plus on 23rd street in Oklahoma City. We purchased a walker for $150.00. We also discussed the purchase of the lift chair and a hospital bed.
We took the walker home and waited for my father to return home from the hospital. On February 21st at 5:00pm my father was released from the hospital and went home. At 1:00pm on February 22, my father passed away. Needless to say, my father never got the opportunity for physical rehabilitation or to use the walker.
On February 28, my mother returned to Mobility Plus to return the walker which was still unused and had the tags and plastic from the manufacturer still on it. She was told by the sales associate they were unable to take the walker back since they had a sign posted in clear view that stated there was a 3-day return policy. My mother began to let them know of my father's death and asked if there might be an exception in this case.
The sales associate told her that they would not make an exception and that the sign speaks from itself. My mother asked to talk to the owner, Mr. Rick Atkins, to see if there might be something he could do but he acted like a coward and refused to come out of office and only sent verbal messages via the sales associate.
I talked to Mr. Atkins personally on February 29 and he again refused to refund the merchandise.
The money is not the issue here... It is inconsequential. We are fighting for the principal!
