My daughter made an appointed with Dr. H. Rayan Kazemi to have three of her wisdom tooth pulled. It was her understanding and according to the form signed that she would pay the copayment of $883.00 and her insurance company would pay the balance of $1,345.00.
On the date of her surgery I drove her to the doctors' office, once we got there she wrote out a check for the agreed upon amount $883.00. He proceed to with the surgery, then his secretary confronted me saying that her check wasn't acceptable, and they needed the agree upon amount. Not knowing the neighborhood, I went out on a very cold day, in search of a bank, not able to find a bank I went to the first most machine and withdraw the maximum amount $300.00. Went back to the office and handed over the $300.00 and informed them that they could take the balance $583.00 from my bankcard, in which they did. Then from out of the Blue, the insurance copayment became my problem, because they wanted that money also.
This disturbed me, because they were so desperate in getting all of their money. All of a sudden, you would have thought I was the one having surgery on my mouth. They were very rude and demanding about the money. Therefore, I have to go back out in the weather and walk nearly seven blocks before I saw a postman to ask him if he knew where I could find a bank, which was still another block and a half away. I got the money and went back to pay the entire bill.
I feel that this was a racial thing, if I had been white, I doubt if I would have had to pay the entire bill that included the part the insurance company would have paid, and had ageed to pay after the dentist office contacted the about the copayment.
