Sometime during the night, an icon showed up on my computer tray. It is an alternating blue shield and red shield w/x. This is usually when some threat is detected by my antivirus program. I ran a scan, but nothing was found and the icon remained.
When I try to clear it, it takes me to www.virprotect.com. It is someone trying to sell me an antivirus/antispyware product. I do not want this product, but I can't tell them so. I can not clear it from my computer and it keeps popping up to their site. I have tried to contact them several times to try to find out how to clear it, but get no response.
It has already caused me problems. I was woking on and online social security application, and when I reached the point to review and print some info I needed, their site popped up and I lost the info and could not recover it.
I don't know who these people are or what their intentions are, but it seems they are determined to sell me their product or they will not release my computer. I have tried to find a phone number for them, but have been unable to do so. So far, I have only been able to send a message through their support center, and as I said, I have received no response.
