I went to the Verizon store in Costa Mesa, CA because my phone was not working properly. They agreed to send a replacement (phone, not battery) by mail. I received it, and recycled the old phone. When I received my bill, Verizon had charged me $449.99 for unreturned equipment. No one told me I had to return it. The salesman in the Verizon store did not tell me. The box the new phone arrived in had no notice. I was transferred from CSR to CSR. When I complained about the misinformation I was given at the Verizon store, I was told "they do that all the time." Now Verizon is cranking up their collection machine because I am disputing the bill. They have offered to settle for half. $225 for a broken phone. With service contracts in place, I have no choice but to pay off Verizon or have my credit ruined. They have refused to escalate my complaint.
