I moved out of my apartment at school in May of my landlord can verify this. One of my roommates (who was still living there that summer) called Verizon to change the name on the phone bill from mine to hers. They didn't receive a bill the entire summer.in AUGUST I got a call from Verizon stating that they had returned bills from the post office because my name was no longer on the mail box. I said that my roommate took care of it in May but they had no record of that occurring.
So I finally changed the name on the bill and had them send the closing statement and final bill to my former apartment c/o the girl who was currently living there. She received the bill and went to the local Verizon Wireless store to pay it and another bill at the same time. Everything was fine until yesterday (FEBRUARY 26) I got a call from a collection agency stating that I owed Verizon $88.09. This was the first i had heard from Verizon in 6 MONTHS.
I never received a past due notice, or the other final notice they claim they sent to my old apartment but all of my old roommates say they NEVER saw. My question for Verizon is, if they were getting returned bills from the post office for the bills from the summer, how come those final notices magically DID make it to my apartment even though my name still wasn't on the mail box. My main beef with them is such: if they collection agency got a hold of me so easily, how come they couldn't? What we have determined is that the IDIOT at the Verizon Wireless store charged both payments my roommate made to her new account instead of my old one. But according to Verizon, this is somehow all our fault.
