It seems that Circuit City offers "open box" items at a discounted rate, however they neglect to tell you the discount you receive isn't worth the trouble it causes.
My husband and I purchased a 60 " Projection TV along with a SONY surround sound home theater system. The total purchase was almost $3000.
We were assured that if we purchased a $300 extended warranty that the "open-box" item would be cover just like a brand new product. When asked what "open-box" meant, we were told "the only difference is that your TV is bubble wrapped and not in an actual box".
When we turned our TV on it had a green circle aprx 4" in diameter in the dead center of the screen. We were told we could pay the difference of the "open-box" discount and a brand new TV and they would replace it.
When we talked to the store manager at the Arlington TX store he was unwavering and had not issue with us returning the entire purchase, closing our credit account and going to their competitor. The corporate offices reacted the same way.
Do yourself a favor. Don't even bother with purchasing from Circuit City take your money to Fry's or Best Buy where they care about the customers and know what "customer service" is.
