Ringing in Ears for Weeks After Renting a Floor Sander

I rented a floor sander and used eye protection and a mask for the dust. I did not use ear protection, and I have had ringing in my ears for weeks, with it not getting better. I went back over the contract and looked around the store, and I did not see any sign of the need for ear protection when renting the floor sander.
