Warranty? - Water Heater Unit Installation

I bought a hot water heater from Home Depot on 11-08-05 and today it went out! My husband went to home depot to check on this and was told, "sorry, but you are 18 days to late, because that is when your warranty expired!" This is bull and I want them to correct this situtation!!
