Last week, after reading an offer in the internet from MagicJack, I decided to give it a try. What caught my eye was the 30 day free trial offer: "NO money will be taken out of your account until the 31st day" This statement was repeated on every single page of the offer, as well as in the final page of the order form. After the bank info was given, but BEFORE I had even clicked on the "send order now" button, I went to check my account due to an unexpected charge notification received by phone text and, much to my surprise, the amount was already showing as a charge.
To make a long story short, I text chatted with their rep (no phone numbers given anywhere!!!) and he eventually wrote -"Well, we are not actually taking the money out, just putting a hold on the amount for the next 30 days..." We know the end result on the account is the same. I proceeded to cancel the order immediately and requested a funds release. It would take "5-6 business days" according to the rep.
Luckily, with their cancellation email on hand, my friendly banker was able to reverse the charges. I thought this was the end, but... Next morning, 15 hours AFTER sending me the cancellation confirmation... They charged the account again... I was ready this time and this was immediately reversed by the bank. According to the bank, if it happened again, I could press a formal complaint within the bank and they would take action. I was ready to do this but that was the end of this little encounter... I hope.
