Starting August Home Depot has revised its policy for the 10% routine military discount and now requires specific ID's at checkout. Understandably this reduces fraud but here's the catch: For Veterans (not retirees or active duty personnel) unless your VA ID has the words "Service Connnected Disability" on it, there is no discount (exception: Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends). Home Depot reluctantly adopted their military discount program only under competitive pressure after Lowe's instituted one in honor of those who served their country. Now it is apparent that Home Depot does not care if the Veteran served his country, instead they care only if he is disabled. What a shame. I spend thousands of dollars at Home Depot annually, and that business just shifted to Lowe's this month as a result of the policy change at Home Depot.
