After purchasing a Cannon product at Fry's.com a rebate form was included in the purchase and in the advertising by Fry's for a $200 rebate.in fact we usually purchase from a different retailer but our regular retailer was listed as an excluded retailer so we bought it at Fry's instead.
I sent the rebate form, upc code and all required documents to The Advertising Checking Bureau on 11-12 via certified mail. Several months later I receive a denial letter stating that my receipt did not list the retailer. Amazingly I sent the receipt and invoice copies which both have Fry's.com printed clearly in bold 1 inch tall font. Irritated I printed out another set of all the rebate documents and circled the retailer name on each document, included now a copy of the UPC since the original was mailed already and sent a letter back to them.
Today I receive a second denial letter stating my retailer was not eligible for the promotion. Funny the whole reason we even chose Fry's was specifically because they weren't excluded based on the rebate documents I was provided. So I called over to ACB's customer service line and spoke to the rep.
She asks if I have a document that was page one of the rebate documents with a picture of my product. Yes I do I replied and I pulled out my copy and reviewed the exclusions and let her know that Fry's was not on that list and the whole reason for going to Fry's was because they were not on the exclusion list. She directed me to email [email protected] a copy of what I had.
This is irritating considering I sent this 2 other times including the document that listed exclusions. Both denials were due to incompetence and lack of attention to detail as both were easily proved. We will see what the next round brings but not ever being enticed by a rebate from Canon again especially if this company is still managing their rebates.
My advise, make sure you copy every single document you send them, including upc bar code, and certify mail your correspondence. It's what I did and they will have a very hard time trying to keep denying you. I think they bank on you not being able to prove them wrong or giving up.
I'm researching remedies to consumers for this type of situation now for when I get their next denial tactic.
