I'm writing in regards to a problem I have been having with Inphonic. The problem began when I called them to inquire about a cellular service for my wife. I explained to them I was looking for a service that would cover the area I live and also the Beloit area because we both work there. The Inphonic representative recommended T Mobile. She said this looked like the best service for our situation. She told me if it did not work out then there would be no problem to cancel.inphonic supplied the phone and T Mobile supplied the service.
I received the phone on a Friday afternoon and had to charge overnight before using. On Saturday we made some calls to see how it was going to work and it worked great from our home. The phone did have a sticker on it that said if you use the phone more than 25 minutes that you could not return it. That was not going to be a problem because we were happy with the service. On Sunday we had close to the 25 minutes used on the phone. I went to Beloit to pick up my mother and when I was about 5 minutes away I tried to call her and was not able to place a call. I tried serval times and was unable to complete the call. I then tried to call T Mobile and was unable to complete the call.
I left the Beloit area and was south of Beloit before I was able to call T Mobile and I explained that I was not able to make a call in Beloit. I was then told that the Beloit area was a fringe area and does not carry T Mobile service. I told him I wanted to cancel service because this was not what I signed up for.
He asked me if I was using the phone I got from Inphonic and I told him yes, he then told me that the time on the phone that I was spending was going against the 25 minutes that Inphonic allows which at that time IAM over the minutes now. He told me that as far T Mobile was concerned there would be no charges for anything and I would have to take up the phone issue with Inphonic. Getting to the point Inphonic was the one who recommended T Mobile and hooked me up.
They should have known that T Mobile did not have service in Beloit. If I would have known that there was no service I would not have even tried them. The time that I was over on the phone was time spent taking care of a problem they created not me. They are now trying to make me pay for their problem they will not take any responsibility for their wrong doing.
I called Inphonic to explain the situation and was told you bought the phone, regardless if you can use it or not. I did not cause this problem, Inphonic did, but they were still able to sell a phone anyway. Something is wrong here when they sell the wrong package to someone and they are not out anything. I explained everything to them and they told me, to bad you still have to pay $150.00 for the phone. I told them I would not pay for the phone unless they supplied me with a detailed letter explaining what all the charges where for. I told them to send a copy to my home. This was over six months ago and they still have not sent any paper work.
On 12/20/03 I received a notice from a collection agency explaining I owe $150.00.inphonic never did send the information I requested. I think this is another indication of bad business practice. If I do nothing this will have a negative impact on my credit. I feel it is wrong for a company to make a mistake and penalize the customer when they were the one that should be penalized.
As of today Inponic Inc. Still is adverting that the Beloit area is being covered by T Mobile. If you go to their web site and put in the 53511 zip code T Mobile comes up as a supplier for the Beloit area. They have been told T Mobile doesn't have coverage but they continue anyway. How many other people are going to get screwed before it stops.
