Ripoff Did not honor Warranty

Last August, my husband attempted to have a pioneer car audio receiver cd player repaired that was under warranty by Best Buy in Wilmington, DE the store off of Kirkwood.

We had bought the deck in March and installed it in our kit car we had been restoring in June. The onboard amps were dying.

We had bought it as an open box - missing items - the cables and the frame that it needed to be installed. Since this was at the time a top end unit, we knew it would be over all less to buy it without - order the parts we needed from pioneer, and did so.

When he took the deck back to the store - thoughfully repacked in the box we had bought it in, we had no problem

Two weeks later we got a phone call that there was a problem.

First he was told that the serial number on the box didn't match the serial on the deck, then he was told that they couldn't read the serial number on the deck.

I want to know who actually checkes when they buy something, that the serial number on the equipment actually matches the seial number on the box it's taped up in - BEFORE they leave the store? We assumed they matched. All we cared was that the deck was the model described on the box, and it was.

They refused to honor the warranty. They accused him of fraud, They threatened to call the police and prosecute him for fraud. Actually not THEY - She. The new store manager.

She offered him $10 prorated return on his warranty.

Now - back to the "scratched" serial number - when it's on a label and it's RIGHT WHERE THE METAL FRAME THAT RECIEVES IT TO HOLD IT IN THE DASH happens to be - it gets scratched. Oh yes - husband is MECP certified... Certified to install car audio, alarms... Etc

He was first certified in 1998. Buy Whom? Best Buy, 2201 Farrand Drive, Wilmington.

Yes - he is an ex employee of the above named store.

We have - in the past 5 years bought - from thisvery store - 3 computers, a playstation2,4 sets of speakers, 2 home audio receivers, a TV, DirectTV system, cell phones... Uncounted music cd's dvds, games and programs for our computers...

Store Department managers who know us, attempted to intervene with this new store manager over the car receiver. She yelled at them as well.

And for what? A car deck, that at the current value - off of Best Buy's computer system at the time - august if it couldn't get fixed, and had to be returned for credit, would have cost them all of $175 in store credit - which would have gone right back into a new deck for the kit car.

Crutchfield is getting an order for a new deck now.

We won't set foot in a Best Buy again.

(by the way - the kit car? 2 3rd places, and 1 2nd place, so far in showing. We can build, we can't paint. The paint is getting redone.)

So - this is a rant, a complaint - and one of us IS an ex-employee. Once working there and being on good terms with long term department managers doesn't help.

And if this follows the standards of people dissing
