Oct 08 we had an issue with one of our cable boxes, they sent us out a new one which we then set up. May 09 we were going to cancel service as we will be moving to a new location that does not allow satellite. We were informed there would be a $340 fee for early cancellation of a 2 year commitment.
We have had Direct TV for over 3 years and have been moderately happy with them. We knew there was an initial commitment, which we were fine with and surpassed due to length of service. We were unaware and never informed of a commitment renewal on a replacement for a malfunction.
Unfortunately it seems that we have no current recourse. Supervisors read from a script and were no help, there are a couple of class action lawsuits in progress which I am looking into, but beyond that it seems you are powerless in the face of a "contract" which was never presented or made known.
