BEWARE - Contracts that Cannot Be Confirmed or Denied NATIONWIDE

This is a two scenario buyer beware of Direct TV services and contracts.

The first scenario: My retired parents have to do as much as possible to keep their expenses low, as social security is not the best paying retirement, but that is all folks have from before 401K's... So they get a package deal with Direct TV, Quest internet and phone. From the first invoice trouble started with not having a combined statement as advertised. Each month there were double billings, incorrect billings and over the phone battles my parents would have to endure. Well enough was enough and they called to cancel their contract and move to a new provider.

At this point my parents are told their contract was extended for 18 months because a new box was added to their account for the extra bedroom. So the cancellation fees have now increased 4 fold. There is nothing in the contract that states this and when the representative was questioned, we were told it's a verbal contract; that she [my mom] was recorded at the time of the activation of the purchased receiver (see scenario 2) approving the so called additional 18 months. However, this so called recording is not able to be located when requested.

The second scenario: The extra box was actually purchased by me (their son) from a retailer for $120.00 for a service I had in the past and is now being requested to be returned along with the other 3 units installed by Direct TV installers. When explaining this was purchased from a retailer outside of the contracted 3 receivers, we are told there is a sticker that states the receiver is a leased and Direct TV owned unit and must be returned when requested. I do not recall this sticker, but you cannot argue with these people. I also understand there is possibly a class action suit in regards to this issue being worked. I am hoping to locate this suit and put my name on the list.

I cannot begin to explain how the representatives of Direct TV treat customers whom want to cancel the services. It is as if they are not human. You will only understand this if you have to do the same thing. This cancellation process started 3 months ago and is still being battled today. My parents just want to be done with the whole issue and move on and I am out 120.00 dollars!!!

I just hope that any person or business looking into the satellite option does their due diligence and researches out Direct TV and the hundreds of internet posts regarding the service. Time will only tell the outcome of Direct TV's misleading written and so called verbal contracts that cannot be confirmed or denied!
