Purchased a seemingly excellent Canon S1 IS camera in '04, along with a 4-year PSP. Kept camera in a case and took excellent care of it. A minor brush with the viewfinder frame kocked it off, indicating a weakness in the plastic mounting. Camera also splitting near the viewfinder. Camera continued to function perfectly for another 18 months.
Recently camera would not capture images at all, nor record them. Apparently the image sensor is broken. Took camera in and Geek Squad gave me a hard time about the viewfinder frame. I assured them it was a structural defect and that I had been taking excellent care of the camera. They agreed to take it in.
Now their repair service (Precision Camera) has been calling me to tell me that the repair is not covered and I have to pay over $160. I contacted the Geek Squad about this and after much pleading and assurance that the repair should be covered they escalated the case to management.
Simultaneously I purchased a $2000 plasma TV, and the sales kid was very aggressive about trying to sell me a three year warranty. He claimed that Geek Squad is very easy to deal with and don't give customers trouble with repairs. I have 30-days to purchase a PSP for the TV. On my last trip I told the TV department I was considering purchasing the PSP, but was being hassled by Geek Squad about my camera repair. They backpedaled and sang a different tune, claiming they are two different departments and cannot speak for one another. They denied that there was a general manager overseeing the whole store.
Last time I checked, the sign above the door I walked into in every instance said "Best Buy".
