Extended warranty for what you get is not worth it for Phillips

Dont ever buy Phillips TV s. Heck, dont buy Phillips period because well, they managed to piss off a reasonable guy like me (may not be good enough reason for you but heck, once I'm angry, I'm REALLY angry)

At least if you do buy their TV, DONT BUY their extended warranty service because of their misleading policies (complete rip off)... Bottom line, its not cost effective for you if you compare the finer details of the terms, the dollar amount, and the ridiculous service should you need to use it.

The facts:

-Brand new Phillips LCD TV, broken in 1 week (ok it happens)
-Replaced the panel but was still broken (I have a right to be pissed now right? But I wasnt)
-Replaced the panel again, refused to just send me a new one. Look, this is not a friggin button, its the heart of the TV. (now I'm pissed)
-Total time without the TV in my house because it was in repair: 2 months, in the middle of football season. My team is in the playoffs btw, and I cant watch them in my own tv.
-Extended warranty NOT WORTH. For my tv, about $100 to $150 more expensive (plus, 1 less year!) for tvs that are higher quality brand (source: I compared my extended service cost/length to the latest samsung and sony tvs extended warranty service from amazon)
-Service commitment to customers for warranties is misleading (an example: a consumer quote in their mailed warranty ad, "the repair guy came in, and they decided on the spot to send me a new one, it was that easy!")
-Customer service hops to reach the consumer relations department, who determines if I should get a new tv: 4 (first, a customer support with attitude problem, a second customer support, its tampa bay facility, then finally, consumer relations). Chew on this, companies that care about service ask for feedback in many forms, but Phillips did not in my experience.
-I do not have empirical data for this but according to an observation by an electronics repair person I know, Phillips TV overall breaks more frequently than other TVs.

Bottom line: It takes alot of time to research LCD TVs, so let me just tell you my impression of Phillips so far. Though its brand is well known, its TV picture quality have been consistently rated to be subpar (ie: CNET, PC World, PC Mag, Consumer Reports) - even below the value brands like Vizio (its features have been top tier though). But understand that even different models have different picture quality ratings, but if you dont want to spend time on research, at least know that in general, Phillips picture quality have been disappointing.

To differentiate from their consumers and make money, it relies on semi-gimmicks like the ambilight feature. Its warranty service is bad (from my personal experience), the actual terms comparable, but the cost and service not worth it.

So if you are a person that appreciates a peace of mind for a decent quality TV by buying extended warranty, Phillips electronics is not the one. Extended warranty service and the experience of getting a TV fixed is NOT worth it.
