Atlas Communications
These people are EVIL!

I also have had the sad misfortune to deal with Atlas Communications. Knowing what I know now, I never would have ever let them near my home.

I was approached by a representative this past July, who outlined a Dish Network agreement. It sounded good (just slightly better than what I had, not like a dream come true or anything), so I agreed. The reason I changed was the promise of rebates.

During the installation, things began to look shady. I stopped the install at one point, because it seemed Atlas was going back on what they told me about the contract terms reagarding the rebates. The installer stopped, called Atlas, and eventually told me they had confirmed my agreement with them, and everything was just as they had told me. So we finished the install.

Almost immediately after the work was done, I found out that we were not eligible for any rebates. I called Dish, who told me Atlas should have known we couldn't get a rebate.

I called Atlas, and was told they couldn't do anything because Dish issues rebates, not them. But Atlas told me Dish would do it! How was I supposed to know Dish's terms?

I contacted the Better Business Bureau of Utah, and filed a complaint. Come to find out, Atlas is NOT a member of the BBB and has an UNsatisfactory listing. Why do they have this negative rating? Well, 128 people have filed complaints in the last three years. Most of them deal with the same thing: "Complainants state that verbal statements were made by the sales person, which were unable to be honored by Atlas Communications." Bingo! It's our story, right there.

128 may seem small, unless you consider that for every one report, there are probably dozens of people who never took the time to fight this.

I have had three sessions with Atlas through the BBB, and all came back the same. Atlas innocently hides behind, "It doesn't matter what our representatives tell you, that's verbal, and we don't have to honor it."

They could promise you anything, and they have some sort of legal reason why the little person is going to get screwed. What about bait and switch? What about fraud? What about misrepresenting the product? Isn't there ANYTHING in the law that says this practice is wrong?

Atlas will tell you no. It's your fault for having believed their representative.

This corporation is pond scum, and if I had the money I'd love to see them go down.
