I bought a Sony Mavica digital camera at the Circuit City store in Orlando Florida. I bought this as a present for someone at christmas and was very happy with the purchase. While I was there the sales person who waited on me gave me a big story about how great the warranty was and that it even covered the camera if I somehow dropped it or it stopped working. I didnt have the 124.00 for the warranty since it was christmas time but scrapped the money together cause I thought that it sounded like a good way to insure the camera. The salesperson was really convincing and I even asked several times about what was exactly covered and he kept assuring me that it covered everything.
I gave the gift at christmas and we took it on vacation with us to north carolina. I accidentally dropped the camera and the digital LCD screen became cracked so you couldnt use it to focus the camera. I said dont worry this is the reason I bought the extended warranty and that everything was covered. I mean all together I spent over 600.00 on this camera.
I then took the camera to my local circuit city and they looked at it and said that it wasnt covered under the warranty because it was abused. Now let me tell you... The camera still looks brand new I only used it a handful of times so there is no excessive wear or any cracks or scrapes on it the only thing that was wrong was this cracked screen. I asked to see the store manager and explained the situation and he said sorry I guess our salesperson should of told you that it didnt cover any thing that you may have caused. I said he told me even if I dropped it, it would be covered. He said that they could send it off for repair but I had to pay for it. I later found out that to repair this camera it would cost me 300.00.
I guess my question is what does the warranty cover. I still have not gotten an answer from them. The store manager then became very nasty and I became very nasty and we had a big argument on the selling floor.
I feel like I was ripped off of 124.00 on a warranty that doesnt cover anything. That is the tactics they use at this store to sell warranties I guess. I think something should be done about this.
I now have a 600.00 paperweight because I cannot afford to get it fixed.
