I purchased a 57" high def projection television in 2003. At the end of the first year the picture was slightly distorted at the top.
I called toshiba and the rep told me the satellite company I used must be having difficulties and hung up on me. When I tried to speak to someone else I was told that they showed I had already called and the issued showed as resolved.
By the end of the second year the distortion had progressed to a thirty or forty minute warm up when turned on.
I called them again to see if there was something that could be done. My owners manual stated I a two year warrenty. I was told that I needed to have the set inspected by a toshiba certified technician. When I asked if they could help me locate one I was asked if I had a phone book. When I replied yes the rep said "There I helped." and hung up.
I tried to get ahold of a supervisor but was told that the call center was not located in the same building as the managment and my call would be returned. Difficult, as they had never gotten my phone number.
Finally about two months ago the television almost completely gave in. I can watch shows only on the high definition channels. Everything else is unveiwable, including anything hooked up to it. Dvd vhs and so on.
I called for service and was told the entire picture board was shot. $350 repair and they can't say for sure that the problem won't happen again.
My last call to toshiba resulted in them trying to tell me the tv was made 2 years prior to when I said, (the date of manufacture month/year is on the television itself). I was then asked how long I expected it to last, it was only a tv. To me it was $2700 and a few weeks pay. I was told that I must take very poor care of my equipment (not a scratch in spite of five kids) and that I was expecting to much for my money.
I finally had a chance to speak and I told the rep that I had expected much more from a company than I was recieving. I told them I was going to file reports every where I could and let everyone possible know about their attitude and worthless products. The rep immediatly responded with "so what? The Dumd*'s will buy our stuff anyway!"
Watch out for toshiba. Save your money, save your time and stay away!
By the way the two year warrenty is only on the picture tubes. The remainder is only cover for 90 days - from the date of manufacture not purchase.
