I recently was given the opportunity to upgrade my cingular phone online. I was given a choice of several "free" phones. $0.00... That was the listed cost at check-out and my email invoices.
After I placed my order I noticed a twenty dollar charge on my debit card. When I recieved my new phone I discovered that Cingular had charged $20 for overnight FEDEX Shipping.
I never requested overnight shipping, and when I "checked out" of their Online Store there were no shipping options and no enumerated shipping costs.
A call to Cingular revealed that only new customers get free shipping. Customers upgrading their phones would be charged shipping regardless.
I still would have got the phone regardless. But Cingular needs to have a clearer enumeration of the real costs of those free phones before you check out.
